{"id":1368,"date":"2010-06-19T21:20:11","date_gmt":"2010-06-19T20:20:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=1368"},"modified":"2010-08-11T14:01:43","modified_gmt":"2010-08-11T13:01:43","slug":"mendip-mash-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/mendip-mash-up\/","title":{"rendered":"Mendip Mash Up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/shapeimage_11.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1398\" src=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/shapeimage_11-300x143.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"143\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/shapeimage_11-300x143.png 300w, https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/06\/shapeimage_11.png 418w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Weekly Summary &#8211; Week 1<\/p>\n<p>Total distance about 25 miles, over 4 runs, mainly off-road, hard grass, stone paths, trails, some pavements, mainly sunny and dry<\/p>\n<p>2 miles barefoot, 1 run, grass, gritty paths (hardest surface to run on), pavement and cobbles, sunny and dry, sore pads but no blisters<\/p>\n<p>3 miles in Vivo Barefoot minimal shoes, 1 run on pavements, tender pads<\/p>\n<p>The day after my first barefoot run my pads were definitely tender &#8211; it seemed to develop overnight but they recovered quickly. \u00a0Which was just as well, as today was the day of the wonderful Mendip Mash Up.<\/p>\n<p>Three hours of\u00a0running around the Mendips looking for 50 coloured flags to collect points &#8211; with punishing penalties for late returns to the Race HQ (and beer and tea tent) at the Charterhouse Centre.\u00a0 Our strategy was somewhat lacking and we come 7th out of 9 in the 3-hour team category, but it is lovely day and the cake and beer are very good.\u00a0 Shattered by the evening though and slope off to bed.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is that my legs feel fine but my feet were sore &#8211; the same soreness I got in my arches during the training for the Mendip Challenge. \u00a0I think my arches are still getting used to working on hard ground, but I\u2019m not going back to road shoes and I&#8217;m not going to try supports.\u00a0 I wore my Vivo Barefoots after the race and very soon there was a complete recovery.
