{"id":1557,"date":"2010-09-26T11:20:45","date_gmt":"2010-09-26T10:20:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=1557"},"modified":"2010-10-01T11:29:36","modified_gmt":"2010-10-01T10:29:36","slug":"the-end-of-the-line","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/the-end-of-the-line\/","title":{"rendered":"The End of the Line"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wc3389.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-1558\" src=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wc3389-e1285928622122-300x173.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"173\" title=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wc3389-e1285928622122-300x173.jpg 300w, https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-content\/uploads\/2010\/10\/wc3389-e1285928622122.jpg 587w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Well it\u2019s hard to believe now that it\u2019s been fifteen weeks since I first started to experiment with barefoot running.\u00a0 I\u2019ve kept this blog as a volunteer to provide information for Graham Chapman\u2019s research into a book on barefoot running.\u00a0 I\u2019ll keep going with the blogging but the initial fifteen weeks is over, so how has it been?<\/p>\n<p>Very, very surprising really.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s a such a strange and different discipline to \u2018normal\u2019 running, in that you\u2019re forced to think and plan ahead.\u00a0 You can\u2019t just run out of the door barefoot and see where you end up, unless you enjoy visits to the Minor Injuries Unit.<\/p>\n<p>The slow rate of progress, and let\u2019s face it it is very slow given that I\u2019m up to about two miles at a push after nearly four months, is down to the fact there is so much adjustment going on in your body.\u00a0 In my case I\u2019m working against 43 years in shoes and changing the way my body deals with that means a lot more sticking Compeeds on a few blisters.<\/p>\n<p>My muscles, bones, tendons and ligaments need to adjust not just in my feet and legs, but right up through my body as a fundamental form of locomotion is adjusting to a physically small, but anatomically dramatic, change &#8211; moving the strike site from the rear of my foot 7 inches forward to the front.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s quite clear from my barefoot diary and others that this process cannot be rushed, and nor should it.\u00a0 It\u2019s too easy to jump into fads, to thrive on novelty and to constantly skip through the amusements of life.\u00a0 These days it\u2019s a lot less often that you have to keep trying, keep reigning yourself in, and keep with it.\u00a0 This is one of those few areas in our life where the pleasure gained is inherently bound up in the time taken.\u00a0 And money and \u2018specialist\u2019 gear won\u2019t cut any corners here.<\/p>\n<p>Good luck barefooters &#8211; keep on running.<\/p>\n<p>Week 15 Summary:<br \/>\nTotal Miles: 10.6, mainly cross country, plus tarmac, cobbles and stone.
