{"id":2428,"date":"2011-09-02T12:06:24","date_gmt":"2011-09-02T11:06:24","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2428"},"modified":"2011-09-02T12:06:24","modified_gmt":"2011-09-02T11:06:24","slug":"week-3-3","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-3-3\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 3"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a01.25 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1.25\u00a0miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flat circuit outside my house on pavement, and sandy trail beside the beach on holiday.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement, and one run on sandy trails.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fine weather again for all runs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still quite good, although my feet seem to have started to shed.\u00a0 Lots of dry dead skin coming off at the moment, from my heels and the balls of my feet.\u00a0 However, I&#8217;m not sure this is related to barefoot running, it&#8217;s something that has come and gone every few months for as long as I can remember.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, none.\u00a0 But considering that one of my runs was beside the beach (where hardly anyone was wearing shoes anyway) that&#8217;s not really surprising.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No problems like that.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Deliberately tried to shorten my stride further (as mentioned last week).\u00a0 It seemed to help a bit, but other than that, no further changed.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.\u00a0\u00a0The pain\u00a0in my right foot seems to have gone (touch wood!).\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not this week&#8230;\u00a0 I did see a couple of barefoot runners on the beach while we were on holiday.\u00a0 Most of them were obviously shod runners who ran barefoot on the beach because it&#8217;s softer.\u00a0 Their footprints really showed up their bad barefoot form.\u00a0 Deep holes in the sand at their heels where they heel-struck, then deep holes again at the toes where they pushed off.\u00a0 I saw one guy who seemed to run with great barefoot form (he was also the only one who wasn&#8217;t holding trainers in his hands), his footprints were perfectly level, like he was floating along the sand with no excess pressure at heel or toe.<\/p>\n<p>So I guess I do have a tip after all&#8230; Try running on wet sand at low tide if you live on the coast, then inspect your footprints.\u00a0 It might help to highlight any issues with your form!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a01.25 miles.
