{"id":2460,"date":"2011-09-19T12:05:00","date_gmt":"2011-09-19T11:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2460"},"modified":"2011-09-19T12:05:00","modified_gmt":"2011-09-19T11:05:00","slug":"week-6-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-6-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 6"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a01 mile.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1\u00a0mile.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flat circuit outside my house on pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement and road.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>One dry, two wet.\u00a0 Some puddles on wet runs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0 All the dead skin I reported before seems to have gone, probably as a result of running with no shoes.\u00a0 My skin is fine, the biggest change I&#8217;ve noticed with my feet over the last few weeks is that they seem to have become a lot more flexible.\u00a0 If I massage my feet now (either by hand or using a massage ball) I can feel the joints in my feet flexing and moving in response to the pressure.\u00a0 It feels good, and I think it helps\u00a0me to\u00a0run (and walk) barefoot or minimally shod more comfortably\u00a0because it means my feet can mould themselves around stones or bumps or irregularities in the\u00a0ground surface\u00a0as I move, thus reducing localised pressure and pain.\u00a0 Also, my feet haven&#8217;t hurt during my wet runs this week.\u00a0 Seems my tactic of deliberately shortening my stride has paid off.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No comments, but I think I&#8217;ve surprised a couple of people when I overtake them or run past them when I&#8217;m running.\u00a0 They obviously can&#8217;t hear me\u00a0running along\u00a0behind them.\u00a0 Quite amusing (for me!), and I guess it shows my form is OK, I can run without too much noise so therefore the impact of my footfalls must be quite low.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Living in the UK, autumn seems to have arrived early this year.\u00a0 As a result there are a lot of\u00a0fallen berries and fruit around on the pavement, lots of chestnuts and things like that.\u00a0 So there are a lot of fruit stones and nuts underfoot in a couple of sections of my route.\u00a0 I must have stood on some (I can see\u00a0stains from\u00a0fruit and berries on my feet and between my toes when I get back from running), but I haven&#8217;t actually felt them when I&#8217;ve been running.\u00a0 Maybe my skin is getting tougher, maybe the increased felxibility in my feet has enabled me to run over them without noticing, I don&#8217;t know.\u00a0 So I&#8217;ve pretty much dealt with those things by\u00a0not noticing\u00a0and then\u00a0washing my feet when I get home!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Again, I deliberately shortened my\u00a0stride and kept my turnover slightly higher than normal.\u00a0 Seemed to help with both foot pain when running in the rain and with smoothness of gait (i.e. no bouncing around and minimal impact on footfall).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.\u00a0\u00a0My toe is recovering nicely from the injury, although the nice pink\u00a0new skin is a bit soft.\u00a0 Luckily it&#8217;s right on the end of my toe, so doesn&#8217;t make contact with the ground at all.\u00a0\u00a0I guess that will help me to remember not to push off\u00a0from my toes!\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None this week.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve brought my mileage back down to 0.3 of a mile per run for this last week and have had no problems.\u00a0 No foot pain, no tiredness.\u00a0 So I&#8217;m going to increase the distance again this week and see how I feel.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a01 mile.
