{"id":2472,"date":"2011-09-26T11:33:47","date_gmt":"2011-09-26T10:33:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2472"},"modified":"2011-09-26T11:33:47","modified_gmt":"2011-09-26T10:33:47","slug":"week-7-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-7-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 7"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a01.7 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1.7\u00a0mile.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flat circuit outside my house on pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement and road.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two dry runs, one a bit damp with puddles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0 Again, on the wet run\u00a0my shorter strides seem to\u00a0make sure that there&#8217;s no\u00a0pain when running.\u00a0 My\u00a0big toe on my left foot (the one I\u00a0stubbed a couple of\u00a0weeks ago) was a little sore, but no sign of any damage once I\u00a0finished my run.\u00a0 I think I just wasn&#8217;t picking it up\u00a0quickly enough and it was rubbing slightly on the pavement as I lifted my foot.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No comments.\u00a0 Again, a few funny looks, but I don&#8217;t really pay attention to other people when I&#8217;m running.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing.\u00a0 I have to say this was something I worried about when I started running outside, but I continue to be impressed by the relative cleanliness of the streets around where I live.\u00a0 Anything that is on the pavement that could damage my feet\/gross me out if I stepped on it is usually very visable, so I can avoid them.\u00a0 But it&#8217;s actually very rare that I do see anything.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think my running style has become much smoother.\u00a0 Even when I&#8217;m not concentrating 100% on keeping good form, I still find that I&#8217;m running more gently than I used to.\u00a0 For example, if I was running in shoes and had to cross a road, I&#8217;d leap out into the road (after looking of course!) and land on my heel.\u00a0 Then when I reached the other side, I&#8217;d leap up onto the kerb and carry on.\u00a0 I&#8217;m finding now that I automatically <em>step<\/em> up and down more gently, keeping a more constant speed and effort.\u00a0 Difficult to explain exactly what I mean, but it certainly feels smoother and seems to have less impact on my feet.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.\u00a0\u00a0Although I&#8217;m very aware that I increased my mileage by a lot this week.\u00a0 I&#8217;m going to stick with\u00a0much the same distances this week to\u00a0try and make sure I don&#8217;t fall into the TMTS trap again.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not this week.\u00a0 For the next week, I&#8217;m going to stick pretty much to the same distance I did this week just gone.\u00a0 I&#8217;m away on holiday for a week\u00a0from Friday, so won&#8217;t be able to update this for a while.\u00a0 But hopefully I&#8217;ll get out for a few barefoot runs while I&#8217;m away!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a01.7 miles.
