{"id":2553,"date":"2011-10-24T18:16:02","date_gmt":"2011-10-24T17:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2553"},"modified":"2011-10-24T18:16:02","modified_gmt":"2011-10-24T17:16:02","slug":"week-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a03.25 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot mile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.25 miles<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flat circuit outside my house on pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement and road.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>All chilly, one wet.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0\u00a0Again, some numbness in my toes when running in the cold.\u00a0 However, they started to warm\u00a0up slightly as the run went on.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve read about this, apparently the initial cold\u00a0causes vaso-constriction, so less blood gets to your feet, causing them to get cold\/numb.\u00a0 Continued exercise past the 5 minute or so mark causes vaso-dilation, so more blood makes it into the feet, warming them up.\u00a0 Seems as\u00a0good\u00a0an explanation as any!\u00a0 I&#8217;m running the sort of distances now that I&#8217;m still running past this 5 minute mark, so my feet warm up towards the end of my run.\u00a0 That&#8217;s positive for me, as\u00a0hopefully it means I can run\u00a0for longer as the\u00a0winter draws on without needing to wear shoes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still no comments.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I must have picked up all the crap in the neighbourhood with the soles of my feet last week.\u00a0 No problems this week!\u00a0 Touch wood&#8230;<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think I&#8217;m running smoother than I was.\u00a0 I think I&#8217;m starting to find a comfortable style for myself now.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I felt a twinge of TOFP the other day in my right foot (same foot as before).\u00a0 I&#8217;m not sure why.\u00a0\u00a0My first run this week was 1 mile, which I completed with\u00a0no problems at all.\u00a0 I followed it with a run of 1.25 miles a couple of days later.\u00a0 I felt fine\u00a0during and after this run.\u00a0 The following two days I spent\u00a0on my\u00a0feet, either standing around or walking in my minimalist shoes\u00a0with very little chance to sit\u00a0down.\u00a0\u00a0When I got home after those two days, that&#8217;s when I noticed the TOFP.\u00a0 Very annoying, very worrying.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t want to stall at 1 mile.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve already had a couple of setbacks in my barefoot transition (my first bout of TOFP, the exploding toe incident), and to get stuck at 1 mile because of more pain would be really annoying.\u00a0\u00a0I took a couple of days off, and went out again today for an easy 1 mile.\u00a0\u00a0Touch wood it will be fine tomorrow.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None this week.<\/p>\n<p>Next week I think will be a consolidation week.\u00a0 No increases in mileage beyond 1 or 1.25 miles.\u00a0 I think (hope!)\u00a0the TOFP is just reminding me not to get ahead of myself.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a03.25 miles.
