{"id":2558,"date":"2011-10-31T10:59:49","date_gmt":"2011-10-31T10:59:49","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2558"},"modified":"2011-10-31T10:59:49","modified_gmt":"2011-10-31T10:59:49","slug":"week-12","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-12\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 12"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a03 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot mile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Flat circuit outside my house on pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement and road.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two\u00a0chilly and\u00a0wet, one warm and dry.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0\u00a0Some numbness again on the cold, wet runs, but again the toes seemed to warm themselves up towards the end of the run.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still no comments.\u00a0 More funny looks though.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No problems this week.\u00a0 Sticks, stones and so on\u00a0get stuck to my feet occasionally, especially in the wet. \u00a0I&#8217;m starting to get quite good at brushing my feet along the ground to get them off without breaking stride and more importantly, without scraping my soles on the pavement!\u00a0 Lots of fallen leaves around now as autumn arrives properly, they feel a bit slippy when I run on them, so I generally avoid them.\u00a0 You never know what might be lurking in a pile of leaves!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think I&#8217;ll reiterate what I said last week, my running style seems to be getting more comfortable and smoother.\u00a0 I find I don&#8217;t have to concentrate quite so much to maintain good form now.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I think I was right about the TOFP I had last week, it was just a warning twinge.\u00a0 By going back\u00a0down to 1 mile for my runs this week the pain has eased off again.\u00a0 I had a bit of a sore ankle this week, it started cracking as I was going around a corner in one of my runs.\u00a0 This used to happen all the time when I ran in trainers, and this is the first time it&#8217;s happened while barefoot.\u00a0 I\u00a0ran through it (which I always used to do when shod, the pain only lasts a minute at most), and it has been fine subsequently.\u00a0 Just\u00a0thought I&#8217;d note this down because it&#8217;s the first time any of the annoying clicks and cracks in my\u00a0knees and ankles\u00a0that I used to get\u00a0so often as a shod runner\u00a0has reappeared.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Paying attention to your body is my tip this week I think.\u00a0 As I mentioned, I used to get loads of niggles in my joints when running in trainers.\u00a0 This week was the first time as a barefoot runner I had a similar thing happen.\u00a0 I ran through it, because I know from experience that I can carry on without causing any more damage.\u00a0 So while barefoot running is new to me, I still know my body well enough that I can tell when I need to back off the pace, when I need to stop and when I can carry on.\u00a0 I knew\u00a0last week that I had to back off because of the TOFP, and this seems to have worked.\u00a0 I knew this week that I could press on despite my clicky ankle, and I&#8217;ve been proven right.\u00a0 So even though I&#8217;m doing something new, I need to remain confident that I can tell when something is serious and when it&#8217;s not.\u00a0 Barefoot running isn&#8217;t just about getting in touch with the ground, but also getting back in touch with your own body.<\/p>\n<p>Next week I think I&#8217;ll increase the mileage a bit.\u00a0 I&#8217;ll add 1\/4 of a mile to one or two runs, keeping the other at 1 mile.\u00a0<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a03 miles.
