{"id":2591,"date":"2011-11-07T10:58:56","date_gmt":"2011-11-07T10:58:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2591"},"modified":"2011-11-08T09:27:24","modified_gmt":"2011-11-08T09:27:24","slug":"week-13","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-13\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 13"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a03.75 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot mile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.75 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mostly flat circuit outside my house on pavement.\u00a0 Now the distances are increasing a bit more, it&#8217;s becoming impossible to find a flat circuit.\u00a0 So an element of (gentle!) hill training is creeping in!<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A mix of smooth and rough pavement and road.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>None.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two\u00a0chilly and\u00a0wet, one\u00a0cold and dry.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0\u00a0Some numbness again on the cold, wet runs, but again the toes seemed to warm themselves up towards the end of the run.\u00a0 However, I do tend to have problems with white fingers and white toes.\u00a0\u00a0So I&#8217;m slightly concerned that even though my toes feel like they warm up, when I get home\u00a0a couple of them are white and still\u00a0numb.\u00a0 This isn&#8217;t good for running barefoot, if I can&#8217;t\u00a0feel the ground, I don&#8217;t know if it&#8217;s safe to run on or not.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still no comments.\u00a0 More funny looks though.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No problems this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I find now that I can switch off slightly when I&#8217;m running.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t have to concentrate on my form so much.\u00a0 When I run uphill, I make sure my turnover is high to make sure I don&#8217;t overstride.\u00a0 Same going downhill.\u00a0 The idea is to try and avoid braking as much as possible, because that&#8217;s when the shearing forces start on your soles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The clicky ankle I reported last week hasn&#8217;t reappeared this week.\u00a0 The TOFP is thankfully staying away even with the increase in mileage this week.\u00a0 Also, well, this isn&#8217;t really an injury, but I feel like my balance has improved steadily over the last few weeks.\u00a0 I don&#8217;t know why.\u00a0 I think it&#8217;s because my feet and legs are getting stronger, I&#8217;m more aware of what&#8217;s underfoot and because I&#8217;m either barefoot or in minimilist shoes I can feel when\u00a0my balance shifts much better than before.\u00a0 So, as I said, not\u00a0an injury, but an interesting side effect!\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Not sure I have any tips this week.\u00a0 Following on from listening to your body last week and my complaints about my numb toes this week, I think I&#8217;ll have to start thinking about wearing my RunAmocs when I go out running in cold weather from now on.\u00a0 The skin on my soles is fine, my feet are fine, it&#8217;s just I don&#8217;t want to risk doing any damage to my toes while they&#8217;re numb with cold.\u00a0 Having already had to deal with a toe injury, I know how long it can put\u00a0 you out for and how frustrating it can be.\u00a0 So I might be doing some (if not all, as the temperatures get colder) of my mileage in minimalist shoes from now on.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m away for a few days this week, so I&#8217;m going to try and do one 1.5 mile run before I go, then hopefully I&#8217;ll be able to get a couple of runs in while I&#8217;m away.\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see!<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a03.75 miles.
