{"id":2710,"date":"2011-12-03T13:11:11","date_gmt":"2011-12-03T13:11:11","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2710"},"modified":"2011-12-03T13:11:11","modified_gmt":"2011-12-03T13:11:11","slug":"week-17","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-17\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 17"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a09 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>3.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot mile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>0\u00a0miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>0.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mostly flat, one steep hill, on a mixture of pavement and mud.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>N.A.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>RunAmocs on one run, Vivobarefoot Evo II on two runs.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to fill this in weekly even though I&#8217;m not barefoot at the moment&#8230; This week has been really wet,\u00a0so the ground surface for running\u00a0has been really muddy and greasy.\u00a0 \u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Good.\u00a0 No side-effects of wearing my new shoes.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No problems this week.\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Interestingly, the first time I wore the Evos, for the first few yards outside the front door I reverted back to my old heel-strike before I caught myself and started concentrating on my form again&#8230;\u00a0 I don&#8217;t quite know why.\u00a0 It was probably the old ritual of sitting on the doorstep,\u00a0putting on the socks and\u00a0trainers and\u00a0lacing them up that put me back in my shod-runner mindset.\u00a0 RunAmocs are so different that this doesn&#8217;t happen.\u00a0 But after those initial few yards, I made sure I concentrated on my form.\u00a0 My second run in the Evos was fine.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Still noticing calf\u00a0tiredness at the end of\u00a0runs.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0None this week.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll just note down my initial impressions of the Evos.\u00a0 I tried them on in the shop and took them for a little run up and down the road in Covent Garden (the shop there is really nice by the way, lovely people!).\u00a0 They felt good, so as an early christmas present to myself I handed over my credit card with watering eyes&#8230; At \u00a399 they are not cheap.\u00a0 My first run in them, I was expecting great things from all the other reviews of them I&#8217;ve read over the last few months.\u00a0 But I was a tiny\u00a0bit disappointed.\u00a0 The shoe itself is of great quality, I can imagine it lasting for a very very long time.\u00a0 The tread is good, certainly up there with my old trainers and far better than my RunAmocs for running in mud.\u00a0 But&#8230; the tread, which is why I bought the shoes, is also the bit that disappointed me a little.\u00a0 Because the sole is a bit thicker and has this tread, you sacrifice quite a lot of the groundfeel.\u00a0 The overwhelming sensation I had in my feet\u00a0the first time I went out in them was of the tread, not the ground.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve started to get used to it, and I&#8217;m positive they&#8217;ll grow on me, but I think for road running, or running on hard surfaces, the RunAmocs will be my preference.<\/p>\n<p>Now I&#8217;ve hit 3 miles with ease, I&#8217;m going to try and do Jason Robillard&#8217;s &#8220;10k Pronghorn plan&#8221; from his &#8220;The Barefoot Running Book&#8221;.\u00a0 I&#8217;ve never run a specific 10k or half marathon plan before, I simply increased the milage slowly without any other kind of speedwork or anything.\u00a0 So it&#8217;ll be a new experience for me!\u00a0 We&#8217;ll see how it goes.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles \u00a09 miles.
