{"id":2966,"date":"2012-03-04T19:53:31","date_gmt":"2012-03-04T19:53:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=2966"},"modified":"2012-03-04T20:01:16","modified_gmt":"2012-03-04T20:01:16","slug":"using-half-marathon-as-marathon-training-session","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/using-half-marathon-as-marathon-training-session\/","title":{"rendered":"Using half marathon as marathon training session"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>This one is a great marathon training session if you are not chasing a decent time for your half marathon race.<\/p>\n<p>One of the difficulties of marathon training is that it&#8217;s not sensible to train very long distances at race pace because of the necessary recovery time needed.<\/p>\n<p>This session is simple: just warm up for 5 easy miles before your half marathon race, then run the half marathon at your planned marathon pace.<br \/>\nThis is effective for a number of reasons:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>You get used to running marathon pace when in a depleted state<\/li>\n<li>You can rehearse many of you marathon plans in a race situation: clothing, fueling, pre-race eating, hydration, shoes, pace control<\/li>\n<li>It gets you used to that &#8216;big race&#8217; spectacle if you are comparatively inexperienced<\/li>\n<li>It exercises self control in running slightly within your means (essential for early stages of marathon running)<\/li>\n<li>You get to feel pretty smug afterwards<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This one is a great marathon training session if you are not chasing a decent time for your half marathon race.
