{"id":3028,"date":"2012-04-30T11:17:22","date_gmt":"2012-04-30T10:17:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=3028"},"modified":"2012-04-30T11:17:22","modified_gmt":"2012-04-30T10:17:22","slug":"week-22","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-22\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 22"},"content":{"rendered":"<ul>\n<li>Total weekly miles<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>12\u00a0miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>4.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Total weekly barefoot mile<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1 miles.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Number of barefoot running sessions<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>1.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Running terrain<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Mostly flat, on a mixture of pavement and mud.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ground surface of barefoot runs<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Runs in minimalist shoes, e.g. Five Fingers.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>RunAmocs on three runs, Vivobarefoot Evos on my long run because of pouring rain.\u00a0 Much as I love my RunAmocs, they aren&#8217;t much cop when it&#8217;s really wet out.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Weather for barefoot runs (rain on road?)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Damp and slightly muddy on trails, but nice and dry on pavement.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Condition of skin on feet \u2014 hotspots, blisters<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Blisters are healing.\u00a0 No other injuries.\u00a0 I ran a mile barefoot with no discomfort or pain, so I think my sole conditioning has come back.\u00a0 Barefoot running was limited this week by the cold temperatures and the wet conditions.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Interesting\/amusing comments received during the week: e.g. \u2018You\u2019ve got no shoes on!\u2019<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Nothing.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Treading on nasty things: e.g. glass, thorns, poo \u2014 how you dealt with any<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No problems this week.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Changes in your running style that you\u2019ve noticed.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>No changes.\u00a0 I ran continuously further barefoot this week than last week.\u00a0 I think that running that far barefoot really ironed out the little issues I had with my form.\u00a0 I intend to try and run at least one continuous mile barefoot each week from here on, obviously depending on the weather and temperatures.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Injuries incurred, or reduction of existing symptoms.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>As last week, no injuries, just calf stiffness.\u00a0 I expect that this will be a more or less permanent feature of my running since I&#8217;m aiming to run at least one half marathon this year, so it means that my long run distance will increase week on week.\u00a0 If or when I reach a plateau\u00a0at which I&#8217;m comfortably running a consitstant distance each week,\u00a0then I expect the calf stiffness will go away.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Useful tips and nuggets of info you\u2019ve picked up along the way.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>There are three weeks to go before the 10km race I entered.\u00a0 I&#8217;m pleased with my progress, I ran for 5 miles yesterday with very little discomfort or tiredness at what I think was a pretty reasonable pace.\u00a0 I&#8217;m still running by feel, so I have no idea what sort of time I took to run that far.\u00a0 I do know that I could have quite happily carried on for at least another couple of miles at the pace I was running, so that can only be a good sign.<\/p>\n<p>I remember feeling very frustrated early on in my transition that I was stuck running such short distances, and being unable to up my mileage by any significant amount through fear of injury.\u00a0 However, I think I&#8217;ve reached a point now where I can pretty much increase my distance at will (within reason) and the limits I face are down to my fitness rather than worrying about my feet, soles, TOFP etc.\u00a0 So if there is anyone out there reading this who is contemplating transitioning to barefoot\/minimalist running, or is transitioning and is at that &#8216;frustrated&#8217; stage, stick with it!\u00a0 You will be able to run far again!\u00a0 Although I should say that &#8216;far&#8217; is entirely subjective!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Total weekly miles 12\u00a0miles.
