I have been taking a break whilst a slight, but stubborn, Achilles tendon problem improves. The recent cold weather proved too much temptation and I just had to see what it was like to run barefoot on snow covered roads.

It was, admittedly, just a short trial, but it was an interesting experience nonetheless. After a few shod miles on the road I stopped about a quarter of a mile from home to remove my shoes and socks. However, after finishing my run, the short 100m walk to my front door through ankle-deep snow made my feet feel very, very cold.

All in all, a great reintroduction to the joys of barefoot running.

But, do take it easy in the snow otherwise you’ll end up like Kevin here.

Kevin, the barefoot snowman

Possibly enthused by the recent articles in the newspapers, I decided to take the running shoes off again.
