We think that most people who run should not be labelled and cannot be generalized; there is no universal solution to our training needs, or indeed, any of the needs and desires that a runner has.

Scientific research is hugely beneficial to the advancement of running knowledge and all things running related. But, most of us don’t do our running in the laboratory, we don’t run in controlled conditions — we run in our own ‘real worlds’. That is why I chose to relate my own experiences of starting to run barefoot. I’ve read the books, digested much of the research and learnt enough to think it worthwhile. I tackled the challenges that I encountered (and continue to do so). However, they are my own challenges and only a proportion of other runners new to barefoot running will experience them.

Collective knowledge is a great thing, and the internet has enabled us to build it and offer it quickly and efficiently. I believe that running barefoot can be a great way to help minimise injuries, it’s also provides a unique running experience too. Yet, it is not a cure-all and it is not without it’s own risks and difficulties.

So, we’d like to offer some ‘real world’ barefoot running advice and help, especially to new barefoot runners, or those thinking about starting. As mentioned, my experience is not enough though, we could use some help so we can tell the fuller story of what it’s like for ordinary runners to start running barefoot.

Does this include you?
If so you could be writing on this blog and have your experience and knowledge published in a book telling the real story of what it is like to start running barefoot.

What do we need?
A simple weekly update, that you can write on the site, summarising each week’s running, together with any challenges you faced and how you dealt with them. We’d also like a little bit of your running background and any details of relevant expertise in the fields of running or general fitness. Ideally you should have just started barefoot running or be just about to. Duration of the study will initially be 15 weeks.
All contributors will receive a complimentary hard copy of the book.

Interested?
