{"id":788,"date":"2010-04-13T12:45:19","date_gmt":"2010-04-13T11:45:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/?p=788"},"modified":"2010-04-13T12:48:15","modified_gmt":"2010-04-13T11:48:15","slug":"week-1-a-whopping-12-mile","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/week-1-a-whopping-12-mile\/","title":{"rendered":"Week 1:  A Whopping 1\/2 Mile"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Went out Sunday for a 1\/2 mile run.\u00a0 Overall it felt fantastic.\u00a0 To be clear:\u00a0 My goal is not to run barefoot 100% of the time.\u00a0 I&#8217;m highly focused on learning the Pose Method of running &#8211; and I see barefooting as a way to build my foot strength as well as give me feedback on my form.<\/p>\n<p>There were two significant improvements in this run compared to previous ones.\u00a0 First, the hot spots I was getting on my 4th toes (each foot) did not happen.\u00a0 (When I ran on a track one &#8220;hot spot&#8221; became a torn-off blister, literally, before I realized it.)\u00a0 I must be doing a better job of picking up my feet and not trying to grab the ground with my toes.\u00a0 Second, I realized the urge to push off (with my foot) is much more deeply ingrained than I thought.\u00a0 I caught myself a few times &#8211; because I didn&#8217;t have shoes and I could really feel the friction between my foot and the ground.\u00a0 While a minimalist shoe is better in this regard than a cushioned shoe, I can see how barefoot is even better than the minimalist shoe.\u00a0 My feet (I&#8217;m recovering from Plantar Fasciitis) felt fine during the run, however I did have a bit of post-run pain.\u00a0 This is what is holding me back from doing more.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve added another activity into my barefoot activities:\u00a0 I started going for walks barefoot on the chip-sealed road that is in front of my house.\u00a0 If you&#8217;re not familiar with chip-seal it&#8217;s an inexpensive (and common) method for resurfacing roads.\u00a0 After a thorough cleaning a layer of tar is placed on the road surface, then the road is carpeted with small sharp gravel, then the gravel is rolled\/pressed into the tar.\u00a0 One of the benefits of this surface is &#8220;skid resistance&#8221;.\u00a0 To a barefooter that translates into &#8220;really rough&#8221;.\u00a0 \ud83d\ude42\u00a0 My hope is that by just walking on that type of surface I&#8217;ll get much better foot stimulation than I am by walking on my nice smooth wood floors and wake up those foot muscles even more.<\/p>\n<p>Jim<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Went out Sunday for a 1\/2 mile run.\u00a0 Overall it felt fantastic.\u00a0 To be clear:\u00a0 My goal is not to run barefoot 100% of the time.\u00a0 I&#8217;m highly focused on learning the Pose Method of running &#8211; and I see barefooting as a way to build my foot strength as well as give me feedback [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":16,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"_genesis_hide_title":false,"_genesis_hide_breadcrumbs":false,"_genesis_hide_singular_image":false,"_genesis_hide_footer_widgets":false,"_genesis_custom_body_class":"","_genesis_custom_post_class":"","_genesis_layout":"","footnotes":""},"categories":[67],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-788","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","category-barefoot-running-diaries","entry"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/788","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/16"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=788"}],"version-history":[{"count":3,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/788\/revisions"}],"predecessor-version":[{"id":790,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/788\/revisions\/790"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=788"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=788"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/runningtrainingplan.com\/runningpress\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=788"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
