I trust you all had a good time over Christmas and New Year.
Obviously the snow kept the barefoot running down to zero as I wasn’t prepared to pull a ligament on the ice, even in aqua shoes.
As you can see from above they’re beginning to take a bashing, so I’m not sure how long they will last, but they are doing the job.
I’ve been out twice in them recently and run around 6 miles each time – the first by accident. I was moving up to around 5 miles but hadn’t realised I had turned the volume down on my iPhone by mistake. I use the RunKeeper app on there and usually it tells me how many miles I have run, but this time it didn’t. When I got back to the office I found out that it was over 6, so the furthest I have run barefoot/transition.
At times my pace/form did feel a bit lumpy, but given the distance I’m not surprised. But I was very pleased that I’ve got to the stage where I can just go out for a run now, without worrying too much how far it will be.
There was some tightness in my right Achilles tendon and sensitivity in my left knee, but the pounding on my soles was fine.
Today I braved the torrential rain and ran another five and a half miles around town – tight calves but better form, I think.
So all in all, a good start to the New Year.
