Lost in Cornwall

Creek

Three days after coming back from Berlin we’re off to Cornwall for a week – a long awaited break in a cottage on its own by a creek.  Time to just read, relax, eat and drink.

So we went down to then quay to hire ocean kayaks but the sea was getting a little too rough for them to go it.  Instead we go for a run and get lost for the first mile or so, run back, start again, set too ambitious a target and 2 hours off cliff clambering later stagger back to the car.  Which is all fine, except there is still a residual soreness in my pads from the barefoot run in Berlin.

No time for more runs or any barefoot this week but I did take the opportunity of being on the coast to look for a solution to running on cold pavements.  A few shops were selling aqua shoes but, alas, not in my size.  These do look the way to go though – they’re very thin and flexible, and very cheap, so it doesn’t matter if they wear out.

Ill try and find some in Bristol and let you know how I get on.

Summary for weeks 20 & 21

Total miles: 15.5 over two runs, over grass, pavement, gritty paths
Total barefoot: Around 2 miles on gritty path, pavement and grass, some puddles
Total transition:  None

I think I am a bit late for the summer trade this year, but they do seem to have them on E-bay for around £4 so I might try that. Otherwise I was also looking at Gul Power Slippers (around £13 but maybe more robust), but haven’t managed to see them in the flesh yet.

    What does anyone else use?

I got my aquas in Tescos for about £3, cheapest running shoes ever! Not sure if they still do them, but have seen similar in other large supermarkets recently. Be interesting to read what you think of them. G
