This evening’s 8 mile road run ended with my first barefoot run in the rain.
I wasn’t sure what to expect. I know that cycling in the wet exposes tyres to a greater risk of puncture. There seems to be various reasons for this: more debris on the road, debris sticking to the tyres, and probably most likely is that water lubricates any sharp objects helping them penetrate the rubber. I know also that wet feet are softer than dry feet. I suspected that the rain meant I was at more risk from both blisters (because of the softened skin) and also from suffering my own punctures.
So, I was pretty pleased to find that my fears was unfounded. Indeed, the rain added another pleasurable aspect to barefoot running; in particular, running through puddles. Not quite so sure if it will be as pleasant in colder temperatures (this was about 16C). And, of course, I’ve not yet tried a longer run barefoot in the wet so I don’t know how the rain affects durability of the feet.
Anyway, I was pleased to run a mile with virtually no discernible soreness afterwards.
For the record, the first 7 miles were run in Terrocs.
