After a very long layoff from barefoot running, and quite a break from running in general, I’ve now managed to get back on track.
Winter is always going to present challenges for the barefoot runner, last year did, but this winter was even worse.
After the prolonged cold weather I was then really quite poorly and didn’t run for about a month at the beginning of the year. Even when I did start running again I was far from feeling properly well.
This was particularly disappointing with Paris Marathon looming on the 10th April.
I ran a 10k at the beginning of February, but was over 3 minutes down on a test over the same distance back in November.
Paris will be interesting, there’s not going to be much time for a taper, indeed there’s not much to taper down from!
Part of my run-up to Paris will include some barefoot running, and although I’ll need to build up to it, I plan to maintain my target of 10% of my weekly miles with nothing between the road and my delicate feet.
The first couple of runs since a long lay-off from barefoot have shown that my feet need a little toughening up.
Last 2 weeks total miles: 92
Barefoot miles: 3
