….but no time for a run!
I went to my first ever circuit class 3 weeks after having my baby in April 2012 and I was instantly hooked. I’ve been going twice a week ever since and feel much stronger, particularly in the core. Interestingly, I had terrible back problems after having my first son, but I have remained injury free this time around despite being 8 years older.
I say injury free, but after each class I feel that I’ve been run over by a bulldozer! It doesn’t seem to be getting any easier either, although I think I always push myself to the max! We have remained a constant group of 10 too, so I think our beloved leader has made the classes more difficult as we have progressed.
In the summer our class is outside on grass, and I tend to warm up by running 4 or 5 miles to get there. In the winter, however, we are indoors and it’s too dark to run through the lanes to our venue. If I can, I run earlier in the day, but today there was no time for a run and I was like a coiled spring when I got to the village hall. It was also our first class following a 2 week break over Christmas. To say I performed those exercises like a ‘woman possessed’ would be an understatement! I was hurting before I left the hall, and I know I will feel the effects for days to come!!! My big question, however, is:
“Why does my body still hurt after performing those exercises, despite 9 months of doing them twice a week?”
I know it’s to do with DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness) but I shall look into it more and post what I find here – watch this space….
