Today I’m back up to the full length Park and Stride – 9 miles in from Pensford and of course 9 miles back out at the end of the day. A bit windy and rainy today but it makes a refreshing change.
I’m a little nervous of how my left knee will hold up – I’m hoping it’s fine and this is just a transitional period when my legs get used to running without built up soles and heels.
Straight away, as I headed up the steep hill out of Pensford, I was aware of some minor stiffness in the left knee but it soon passed on. In fact, later the area under the kneecap on my right knee, became tender, but that shifted too. By 2/3rds of the way through my arches certainly felt like they were doing work but I think that is a good thing and they certainly feel stronger and springier than they used to.
Up until now I have tried to concentrate on landing on my mid-foot or fore-foot in my off-road shoes but today I just ran ‘normally’ because it was a relatively long, hilly run and I didn’t want to put any additional stresses on my legs than I had to.
We’ll see how they do overnight and then tomorrow lunchtime I will do another barefoot run.
