News from Runners’ World that Vibram is being sued has heated up the ‘barefoot running is better’ debate.
Most of the comments following the article seem to miss the point entirely. Vibram are not being accused of causing injuries to runners, and they are not being accused of not giving purchasers advice about the dangers of starting to run barefoot (or in very minimalist shoes).
However, they are being brought to task about the claims they have allegedly made in their advertising. More specifically: are the claims backed up by scientific research?
As anyone who follows the barefoot running debate will know, science supporting the benefits of barefoot running is reckoned to be very thin on the ground.
Perhaps, Vibram will unearth some; they might have to.
