After my great experience last weekend I was due for a crap week. I can’t explaine my actions as cocky, just stupid. I decided that maybe if I go and run one of my old routes from my shoed days, the sidewalks would be clear and clean. Boy was I wrong.
I went out Tuesday for a 4.5 mile loop and ended up dancing around rocks and gravel, walking through bad patches and running on the worst surfaces I had seen to date. The result, about 6 blisters combined on both feet. Time for the blister advice.
This was stupid, I should have just stayed on my usual 1 mile loop corse or maybe driven around to find a better route but my ambitious actions cause for a painful week of walking around. I did mange a 5 mile run finally on Saturday that went well considering the raw skin on the bottom of my feet.
I took the advice of many people on the Runners World forums about blisters. I sterilized a needle and popped the blisters without removing the skin (about twice a day). I drained them of their fluid and left them to heal as best as possible. Blisters are no fun.
Next week will be a total recovery week. Lifting the foot is where it’s at folks. Without a decent surface to run on, this is hardly possible.
Cheers, Bruno
