At the beginning of the week I did what I should have done a month ago when my runs began to reach the 3 mile mark, go find a better course to run barefoot. I rode my bike around in my VFF’s and found a much smoother road to a neighborhood that must have been repaved in the last year. The traffic on the road was light, but enough to rid the roadway of any real debris. Since it is residential also, the cars are slow, the road is wide enough for me and there is enough distance to do out and backs without having to repeat any parts.
This is huge for me mentaly. When training for my marathon last year, I hated with I would go out for 10 miles and have to run some extra milage to get it to 10 exactly. I would carefully plan out my routes on Google Maps to find the perfect distance (if anything a little longer) from my front door and back. Doing identical 1 mile loops was getting a little annoying, but I have been saved.
My right calf is still bothering me on these runs, but I feel much lighter on this new course and the feet have lost most of the blisters and are much happier on the smoother roads. I did 14 miles total in 3 runs with my longest run of 6 miles. Boo ya. 3 miles were done in VFF’s as I was out of town and didn’t know the terrain. Overall I am excited about my progress this week. Rock and Roll
Cheers, Bruno
