This week was all about merging my mental ability to adjust my form, cue my body to relax, and my physical ability to run longer distances. This week I finished a 7-mile run, my longest distance since my marathon last year in October. Since the marathon, being injured, and starting this BF thing, I had only done a 10k (6.2 miles) on Thanksgiving and that was a major ITB disaster in itself.
I did a total of 13 miles in 3 runs with the 7 mile kicker. I am having a hard time scheduling wise getting in a 4th run. I now have a good idea and feeling about how long my feet and legs need to relax and recover, but I still want to get to 4 runs a week. I am also trying to get to a higher “long run” because I have an ambitious goal of a half marathon in June. I am already signed up for a 10K in May but I have already conquered that distance and I’m looking into the future. It’s a tough ballence between frequency of runs and distance right now. Total milage for the week is the goal, but I am not sure which is better for me, 4 runs a week or a 3 runs with an increasing long run….hmmmmmm.
My new roads work well but now as I increase mileage I need too look further. I might drive around some more of the streets to investigate. Oh, I’ve noticed that my pace has been slowly increasing while my average heart rate has been decreasing slightly. The first run I had under a 10 minute mile was my 5K 3 weeks ago. Since then all my runs have been right around 10:00 until this week. All 3 runs were between 9:10-9:15.
I’m not quite sure what this means, but I am feeling better, relaxed, the weather is better, my route is golden and I think my form is becoming more natural. It’s taken 3 months almost but I am feeling very confident these days.
Cheers, Bruno
