I had a much needed “down” week this week. A combination of the last 3 weeks milage increase and being out of town convinced me that I was due for a bit less milage. I play in a rock band for a living and the one problem I am seeing is that I have to do runs when I am not on my home turf. In the past, with shoes, this wasn’t as much as a problem as I would just find a course on Google Maps and run it. Now, it’s a bit more tricky with road surfaces.
I am hoping that by the summer, it won’t matter as much, but I am still going to have difficulty on many roads and neighborhoods that are unfriendly to runners. This week I was in Iowa and Chicago and got lucky enough to find some reasonable streets although my traveling kept my milage down a bit which was just fine considering.
I am still riding high but I am considering changing up my “long run” day to be more likly to be when I am at home. We typically play wed-sat/sun and Mon/Tues become MY weekends. Although I haven’t run a whole lot in my VFF KSO’s, I can do shorter runs in them on uncharted roads while away.
I think this will be more of a play-it-by-ear situation, but I have a lot of weekends out of town in the next 6 months so I might have to do something.
Cheers, Bruno
