Well so much for all the good advice about not pushing things too far, too soon…
We were spending a couple of nights on a remote base and there wasn’t a lot to do at the camp, so I thought a nice early run would be in order, given that it’s much cooler then. Now bear in mind that I have already done quite a lot of running this week, on treadmills, and some barefoot each time.
So you might think I should be pleased with the summary I posted for week 18 – especially as it included three barefoot runs, the most I have ever done in one week. But instead of being happy with that and resting, or just running in regular shoes, I decide to slip in a couple of barefoot miles around the camp.
Well I’m paying for it now.
My lower calves are so tight and uncomfortable. I don’t know why it’s them that’s taking the brunt of the effects – maybe my quads have now fully adjusted to the barefoot bounce and the increased mileage is making itself felt lower down.
Anyway, I feel sufficiently chastened now yet still, somewhat alarmingly, quite smug at doing four runs…
