Although I have been running in Vibram Five Fingers for a few months, off and on, last week I decided to try complete barefoot running for the first time. Unfortunately I did not take everyone’s advice and did too much too soon. My first barefoot run felt so good that I ran close to 4 miles on cement. At the end of the run I had a number of blood blisters around the balls of my feet. Other than the blisters, it was a wonderful experience and I had a great time.
Two days later, I decided to try another barefoot run, slower this time, and see if I could work around the blisters. I managed another 2.5 to 3 miles, alibet at a much slower pace (around 10 minutes per mile), and I did not suffer any new blisters.
The rest of the week my mileage was mostly in shoes (race trainers from Asics).
