I was sidelined for approximately two weeks due to a bout of Metatarsalgia brought on by doing too much speed work on the track in my VFF Sprints. Looks like for Week 9 I’ll be getting back to some easy, short runs in my bare feet, but still taking it easy due to my injury. Over the course of Weeks 7 and 8 I only logged about 10-15 miles total.
Week 7 – already going poorly
Looks like this week will be a recovery week. I went out a little too hard last Saturday with the speed work and now I have some swelling on the bottom of my foot on the forefoot area between the 2nd and 3rd toes. It was hurting me (probably a 2 or 3 on a scale going up to 10) when walking or sitting around, but I decided to test it out on a run on Tuesday. I ran 6.5 miles barefoot without any noticeable
Week 6
Pretty un-eventful week. I mainly stuck to the standard 3-4 mile loop around the park for each of my daily runs. We did track work on Saturday (1 mile time trail, that I completed in about 6:53 in Vibrams followed up with 6 200 meter sprints). I was unable to run on Sunday due to it being Mother’s Day and the need to take my boy to go see Iron Man 2. I did notice a little bruising on the bottom
Week 5 – finishing the week strong
So I have to say that this week I cheated. I managed to get in a 4 mile barefoot run on Tuesday but I had a 5k race scheduled for saturday and I know that I’m not quite ready for a true race totally barefoot so I had to cheat. I decided to wear my Vibram Five Fingers for the race on Saturday, instead of being barefoot. In order to make sure I would be ok (I haven’t worn any VFFs or
Week 5
Started out this week with a night long slow run on Sunday. I decided that I would try for 9 miles in my barefeet even though I did not feel that well (had a festive evening the night before). I went out at a nice 9:30 to 10:00 min per mile pace and generally had very few issues. I got my first heckler (well, maybe not a heckler, was just some girl leaning out of a car to yell ‘I like your
Finishing out week 4
So for the remainder of Week 4 I did my standard 3-5 miles barefoot each day (other than Friday which is a rest day). Saturday morning was a track workout and I decided that I would run in my VFFs since we would be doing speed work. No major issues at all for Week 4 and running in VFFs went well. I was able to hang with the 20 200s and we fnished up with about a mile of pure barefoot work (cool
