Today is my last training session before the Bristol Half, so I decided to run the same intervals sessions around The Downs to build up my speed – a little late, I know.
I don’t know what it is but I am so much more comfortable with distance than speed – I seldom feel that I can really push myself into really going any faster. I’m probably just not putting the training in. But today I gave it a go and began to convince myself that I was going faster, despite the heat.
I also find it so tempting to cheat and ease up the speed on the Recovery and Steady sections, even though I know I would only be cheating myself, and no one else gives a flying fig. But I did not give in to temptation and I kept to what I thought were the right paces for the right intervals and only allowed myself to up my speed on the Sprint.
My lungs were bursting at the end, and the result? I came in 3 seconds slower!
