The usual terms behind the letters of the mnemonic SMART when referring to goal setting are Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Realistic, and Time limited. I know there are others, but these are the terms most familiar to me. I was thinking, as I wallowed in a hot bath after my run, that these terms are quite limiting and safe when it comes to setting goals. That’s probably the idea, but I began to think of alternative terms to spice things up a bit. I came up with the following, but am open to other ideas….
S – stretching, super, significant
M – meaningful, marvellous, motivational
A – ambitious, aspirational, awesome
R – reaching, rewarding
T – tremendous, testing, totally
I don’t know which of these I will apply to my goals for 2013 as I haven’t set any yet. Better get my skates on!
