I had the entire week off (not the best time for a stay at home vacation) but I used it wisely as it pertained to my running. This week I really focussed on my stretching, exercises and I bought the book Chi Running. Now I know that nothing is the end all be all and everyone is different, but I belive this book (and technique) have a lot to offer.
I read Chi Running cover to cover in one day and because implementing some of the “focuses” into my 3 runs this week. Having techniques to concentrate on were super helpful. Before I was really just running barefoot with advice from forum members and web pages. Although the aformentioned advice was helpful, this book gave me a few major things to think about as I trotted down and back through my parkinglots and sidewalks.
While working on my Chi Running I was blessed with a warm clear day that rejuvenated my whole outlook on running. In this awesome moment I decided to break bit from the “plan” and finished 3.1 miles at the end of the week instead of the planned 2.5. I finished with 8.35 miles, slowly progressing twords being a real life Barefoot runner. Now that I have completed a 5k in training, I feel pretty good about my upcoming race.
As far as Chi Running goes, I am going to work on it every week and begin to really understand the technique of running, not just flailing my arms and legs around till I end up back at my house with out blisters or blood hopefully. I also think it’s time for Happy Hour, and maybe a Happy Day after that!
Cheers, Bruno
