Why is running such a great way to lose weight?

I think most of us know that dieting doesn’t really work, the research tells us that much.

I think most people agree too that if a certain lifestyle has tipped the energy balance towards weight gain then that is what happens. It might take weeks, it might take years, but slowly and ever so surely the body changes shape. That’s all fine until we decide that we are too heavy, or too fat, or our clothes are just too tight.

So, if the lifestyle has created the situation, then that is what needs to change. We can diet all we want, but if we revert to our ‘normal’ lifestyle then it’s not going to work. And that is the problem with diets; they are temporary. They involve an unsustainable way of eating and the answer to weight management has to be something that is sustainable.

This is where running scores so well. Not only is it a very effective way to burn energy, but it changes people. People who run start to think and act differently. They take the sort of choices that encourage a healthy body; both with their food and their exercise.

If you really want to learn more about how to reach — and more importantly maintain  — your chosen body weight and shape then read the book, Running Trim. You’ll discover that it’s not about going without, on the contrary, it is about adding things to your life.
