I’m way behind on this thing. After the marathon, I took a couple weeks off/easy just to recover. Two weeks after the race, we had a local 5K that I ran in VFFs. Since the race I’ve run in my VFF’s all the time except for a couple runs where the ball of my foot started to hurt, which switched to my Frees for those runs. My plan is to spend the next 19 weeks training for
Week 7 and 8
I was sidelined for approximately two weeks due to a bout of Metatarsalgia brought on by doing too much speed work on the track in my VFF Sprints. Looks like for Week 9 I’ll be getting back to some easy, short runs in my bare feet, but still taking it easy due to my injury. Over the course of Weeks 7 and 8 I only logged about 10-15 miles total.
Week 7
Total weekly miles: 5.5
Total BF miles: 5.5
Barefoot Sessions: 3
Terrain: Mostly asphalt, but got some trails and gravel in.
Gave my shoes to a friend for safe keeping. I am not using shoes anymore.
Weather: Very warm week.
Condition of Feet: The left foot is slowly getting stronger. I notice I am limping less, but I will watch it closely. The story this week is about the soles. Sore and tender
More interesting observations
This past week saw 2 barefoot runs.
Like nearly all my barefoot runs, these were included in longer runs (so I usually end up carrying my shoes looking silly).
For those who need convincing that running shoes can have detrimental effects on running action, I’d suggest trying the following short road run. Run for one mile with shoes on, stop and take them off, then (if the surface allows), run
week 17 ending 5-29-10
Sunday: 6.5mi all chipseal, well little bit of sidewalk in there too. Good run, feet felt good, legs felt strong. No rawness during or after run, arches just a little sore from doing speedier than usual run.
Wednesday: 8mi run. Ending in tofp and bofp on left foot. Not sure if it was the heat of the pavement that promoted poor form, or if it is just typical aches of mileage (though don’t have
week 16 ending 5/22/10 weekly total 4miles
Tuesday: first barefoot run of the week, somewhere around 4 miles. Easy pace run with the jogger, feet felt fantastic the whole way. Running on the hot pavement/trails was interesting. Made for some good foot feel when I’d hit a shady patch along the route…it was like hitting up a lemonade stand in the middle of a desert. Good stuff.
and….that’s it. Just a bad run week, no
